KC CAN! recently donated $11,400 to Higher M-Pact. The donation is part of KC CAN!’s continued contribution to the development of a computer learning center and allows purchase of new computing equipment and software to enhance the learning experience. KC CAN! had previously partnered with Higher M-Pact to renovate the computer lab and a reading library. KC CAN! is excited with the progress of the facility, staffing and the education programs. A grand opening and press event was held in March to celebrate the facility and programs. KC CAN! wishes to recognize SE Fox for making generous contributions of material and labor for flooring. Higher M-Pact operates directly in the communities identified as “high risk” for youth and uses the facility for educational programs to positively impact youth in the area.  Click here to see pictures of the Higher M-Pact Computer Lab.

KC CAN! recently completed our 2007 Back To School (BTS) project which provided at-need Kansas City schoolchildren with classroom supplies they require as school starts up.  KC CAN! partnered with Higher M-Pact, another Kansas City foundation, to successfully complete their 2007 BTS program.  

 Via this program, at-need schoolchildren registered to participate in the BTS event.  Then, by meeting certain criteria (participation in after-school programs, personal conduct guidelines), schoolchildren are selected to participate in the BTS program.  Each qualifying child then receives school supplies, a school uniform, and shoes that will be used for the upcoming school year.  

 KC CAN! sponsored 28 children ranging in age from first grade to high school senior as part of this program.  KC CAN! and our Executive and Advisory board members provided donations to sponsor these children.  Board members then went shopping for and compiled the necessary school supplies for each of the 28 children.  Members of the KC CAN! Executive Board participated in the distribution of the supplies to the families and schoolchildren who qualified for the event.  The event itself was very eye-opening and further reinforced that KC CAN! projects such as this can make a significant difference in the life of a child.  Without this support, some of these schoolchildren likely would be without the materials they need to enable a useful learning environment as they begin their classes.  Click here to see Pictures from the BTS event.
