The annual event, Faith & Mercy Drive, was conceived by Tiffany Roberts, a KC CAN! Executive Board Member, in gratitude to Children’s Mercy Hospital for saving the life of their day-old daughter who was born with a congenital heart defect. The Roberts family gained a profound appreciation for the hospital’s importance as a resource for all children in our region requiring pediatric specialty care. KC CAN! is pleased to support this event which recognizes the unique role that Children’s Mercy Hospital plays in providing the very best in specialty medical care to our children in the Kansas City community and across Missouri and Kansas.
The Faith & Mercy Drive takes place every year in the Spring. During this time, KC CAN! places bins at various locations across the Kansas City area to collect toys, art supplies, games, clothes, books and movies to benefit the children who are patients of Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. The Child Life Department at the hospital collects the items to promote a positive environment for patients and their families, by providing materials and guidance for developmentally appropriate play and preparing and supporting children for medical experiences. Child Life services all inpatient and intensive care units. Whether children are at Children’s Mercy for only a few hours, or for an extended period, Child Life specialists ease their anxiety, making their hospital experience a more positive one and resulting in better medical outcomes.
On an annual basis, KC CAN! has collected around 1,000 items.
What Items to Donate
KC CAN! invites you to donate the following items for the Faith & Mercy Drive. For safety reasons, all items should be new.
- Art supplies (coloring books, washable markers, play-doh, stickers, art kits, paint markers, etc)
- DVD’s (newly released Children / Family – G, PG, or PG-13 only)
- Infant Rattles or teethers made of all plastic, no cloth
- Playstation 3, X-Box 360 & Wii Games (Rated E or E10)
- Plastic toys that can be fully wiped down such as Fisher Price Little People sets, musical crib toys, stacking or sorting toys, etc.
- Small new stuffed/plush toys (must have tags on them)
- Undergarments (Girls and Boys sizes infant to adult, cotton)
Monetary Donations
