The Bridge Home for Children (The Bridge) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping girls ages 8 to 18 who are victims of abuse and neglect. It operates two state-licensed facilities that accept referrals from the Missouri Division of Family Services and the private sector. The purpose of The Bridge is to provide life skills, self-esteem, educational support and a loving environment to these girls to enable them to be contributing members of the community. The Bridge Home Refurbishment Project
One of The Bridge's facilities was converted to a home called "The Stork's Nest" for six teen mothers and their babies. KC CAN! fully furnished the bedrooms for the teen mothers and their babies providing twin beds, cribs, mattresses, combination dressers and changing tables, floor lamps, curtains, and all the bedding for the beds and cribs. The furniture was purchased by KC CAN! and KC CAN! funded having the furniture professionally assembled for "The Stork's Nest.” All other items were purchased by board members using KC CAN! funds.
Through this project, KC CAN! was able to help twice as many children – the teen mothers, who are very much children themselves, as well as their babies. A special thank you goes out to Kathy Schmidt, Advisory Board Member, for coordinating and managing this very worthwhile project.
